The United States has proposed a $120 million deal to provide the Philippines with training helicopters, according to Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel “Babes” Romualdez.
Romualdez confirmed the offer in response to questions about a reported “potential sale” approved by the US State Department, as cited by Reuters.
“These are all offers being made to us. Ultimately, it’s our decision and depends on whether we can afford it,” Romualdez told GMA News Online.
The envoy did not specify details about the helicopter model or delivery timeline. When asked how the deal would benefit the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Romualdez said that decision rests with Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro.
This potential sale is seen as part of the deepening defense cooperation between the US and the Philippines amid regional security concerns.
