A van and a bus collided with concrete barriers on EDSA early this Sunday morning, causing significant traffic disruptions. The incident unfolded when the van driver, en route from Cubao to Taguig, encountered an issue with his vehicle after descending from the EDSA-Ortigas flyover on the southbound lane. According to the driver’s account reported by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB, something caught on the van’s tire, leading to the driver losing control and crashing into the concrete barriers.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that the van struck seven concrete barriers, resulting in substantial damage to the front of the vehicle. Shortly after the van’s collision, a bus traveling on the EDSA Busway collided with the same set of barriers.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers of the van or the bus. However, the accident caused a temporary traffic jam as only one lane remained passable for motorists and buses, leading to congestion in the area.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential hazards on busy thoroughfares like EDSA and underscores the importance of vehicle maintenance and careful driving to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
