Vice President Sara Duterte revealed that she was never friends with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., despite being running-mates during the 2022 elections. In an ambush interview with House reporters, Duterte shared that they only got acquainted during the campaign and did not have a personal relationship before that.

“We didn’t really talk, we weren’t friends. We just got to know each other when we became running-mates. Before that, we didn’t communicate,” Duterte said. She emphasized that their conversations were work-related during the campaign.

However, Duterte clarified that she has a close friendship with Marcos’ sister, Senator Imee Marcos, whom she has known since 2012.

The Marcos-Duterte Uniteam secured a landslide victory in the 2022 elections, with Marcos receiving 31 million votes and Duterte 32 million. Duterte was appointed DepEd Secretary in June 2022 but resigned a year later, citing issues with budget allocation control by House leaders. Despite this, she said she and Marcos remain on good terms personally.
