Makati City Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay confirmed on Friday that her husband, Makati City Representative Luis Campos, will be running to succeed her as mayor in the upcoming 2025 elections. This announcement comes as her sister, outgoing Senator Nancy Binay, has already filed her own candidacy for the same position earlier in the week.
When asked about her husband’s plans, Mayor Abby said, “Yes po, tomorrow,” confirming that Campos will officially submit his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Makati City mayor.
If Luis Campos pushes through with his candidacy, he will go head-to-head with Senator Nancy Binay, marking a significant political rivalry within the Binay family. Mayor Abby, who is eyeing a Senate seat in the 2025 elections, mentioned that there have been no discussions about the situation and left the decision to Makati’s voters. “We will let the people decide,” she said.
Mayor Abby also addressed claims from Senator Nancy’s camp, which suggested that their father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, had influenced Nancy’s decision to run for mayor. “We made our decision a long time ago, and what they’re saying about it being my father’s wish is not something he’s ever mentioned to me. I’d have to hear it from him directly to believe that’s true,” she clarified.
