Mercy Sunot, one of the iconic vocalists of the OPM band Aegis, has passed away after a battle with cancer, the band confirmed through their official Facebook page on Monday morning.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mercy, one of the beloved vocalists of AEGIS Band. She bravely fought her battle with cancer but has now found peace and rest,” the band wrote.

Known for her powerful voice, Mercy was remembered by Aegis for bringing “comfort, joy, and strength to so many.”

“She has touched countless lives, inspiring fans and lifting spirits with every song she sang. Her passion, warmth, and unforgettable presence on stage will forever be cherished in our hearts,” the statement continued.

The band added a heartfelt farewell: “Mercy, thank you for the music, the love, and the memories. You will be deeply missed.”

Mercy’s sister and bandmate, Stephanie Ken, mourned her loss by changing her social media profile pictures to a black image with a lit candle.

Just over the weekend, Mercy had taken to social media to ask for prayers following lung surgery.

Aegis is best known for their timeless hits such as Sinta, Luha, and Basang-Basa sa Ulan, which have left an indelible mark on Filipino music.

Rest in peace, Mercy Sunot.
