Christian Standhardinger has decided to retire from playing professional basketball, according to Terrafirma Dyip team governor Bobby Rosales.

In a statement on Thursday, Rosales confirmed the news, saying, “Christian has informed the team he will retire from playing despite his live contract, which will expire by year-end. We have relayed this information to the Office of the Commissioner.”

The announcement comes just months after Standhardinger, 35, was traded to Terrafirma from Barangay Ginebra in July. He joined the Dyip alongside Stanley Pringle in exchange for Stephen Holt and Isaac Go.

Injuries and Achievements

Standhardinger has been sidelined since September due to a knee injury, which ruled him out for the rest of the Governors’ Cup and placed him on the injured/reserve list for the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup.

Since joining the PBA in 2018 as the top overall pick for the San Miguel Beermen, Standhardinger has had a remarkable career, winning four PBA championships—two with San Miguel (2019) and two with Barangay Ginebra (2021 Governors’ Cup and 2022-23 Commissioner’s Cup).

He also claimed the prestigious Best Player of the Conference award twice, in the 2019 Governors’ Cup and the 2023 Governors’ Cup.

Career and Legacy

Throughout his PBA career, Standhardinger played for multiple teams, including San Miguel, NorthPort, Barangay Ginebra, and Terrafirma. Known for his tenacity and skill, he was a vital contributor to every team he represented.

The news of his retirement coincides with a busy period for Terrafirma, which recently traded Juami Tiongson and Andreas Cahilig to San Miguel for Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel.

As Standhardinger steps away from the court, his legacy as a champion and a standout player in the PBA will remain a significant part of league history.
