MANILA, Philippines – A fire incident in Calbayog City in Samar past 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, has damaged properties amounting to P3 million, according to a report.
More than one hundred (100) houses were affected when the fire, according to the fire marshal, broke out in Barangay Carmen which also hit some parts of its nearby village, Barangay Obrero.
According to Senior Inspector Victor Ygbuhay, the Calbayog City’s fire marshal, the pathways were narrow, the houses were constructed almost close to each other, and the strong winds made their response team difficult to put the fire out.
Calbayog City Mayor Raymund Uy secured the assistance from the city government for all the victims of the fire incident.
The city’s sports center now serves as the victims’ temporary shelter while Uy seeks for other assistances from different sectors of the community for the fire victims.
