Water levels in key dams in Aklan have shown a modest increase following rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Tino, officials report. Although the rise hasn’t yet reached critical levels, the slight uptick is prompting authorities to ramp up monitoring and preparedness.
The provincial disaster-risk agency noted that while this increase offers a bit of relief—indicating some replenishment of water resources—it also widens the margin for caution as further rain could accelerate the inflow. With storm-forecast models still projecting heavy downpours, the agency is advising local barangays near dam spillways and drainage outlets to stay alert and ready for possible evacuation orders.
Local engineers have inspected the dams and confirmed that the structures remain stable. Still, they are coordinating with the provincial government to ensure that early-warning systems and evacuation plans are up to date, especially in low-lying areas downstream. Residents are being reminded to avoid venturing near riverbanks or dams during rainfall peaks, to keep phones charged for alerts, and to follow any instructions from municipal risk-reduction teams.
