MANILA — EJ Obiena, the world-renowned pole vaulter and World No. 3, took to social media to refute misleading stories regarding comments on fellow Olympian Carlos Yulo’s personal life. In a Facebook post, Obiena stressed that he respects Yulo’s privacy and values his friendship with the gymnast, asserting that any claims suggesting otherwise are “outright libel.”
Obiena, who placed fourth in the 2024 Paris Olympics, emphasized his focus on the upcoming season and urged fans to avoid “clickbait sites” for accurate information. He also praised Yulo, who made history at the Paris Olympics by winning two gold medals in men’s gymnastics, and expressed his pride in Yulo’s achievements for the Philippines.
“I deeply respect him. He is a great champion for our country,” Obiena said, adding that he has no plans to comment further on the matter.
