MANILA — The Sandiganbayan has dismissed a P276-million ill-gotten wealth case against the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., his widow Imelda Marcos, and their associate Roman Cruz, citing inordinate delay and due process violations. The 37-year-old case, known as Civil Case 0006, alleged that Cruz, in collusion with the Marcoses, acquired assets worth more than their lawful income, including properties in Baguio City, Makati, California, and Metro Manila.
The anti-graft court noted that state prosecutors did not oppose the Marcos family’s motion to dismiss the case, with the court finding that the prolonged proceedings had compromised the defendants’ right to a fair trial. The Sandiganbayan highlighted that the lengthy delay, coupled with the potential loss of witnesses and evidence, had prejudiced the defendants.
The court also acknowledged Imelda Marcos’s advanced age, noting that her health and ability to recall events from decades ago had likely declined. This case dismissal follows several other cases against the Marcos family over alleged ill-gotten wealth that have been resolved or dismissed over the years.
