Renowned Filipino designer Rian Fernandez brought his artistry to the global stage once again, crafting the breathtaking evening gown worn by Miss Universe Thailand 2024, Opal Suchata, during the Miss Universe 2024 pageant. Opal finished as third runner-up in the prestigious competition.
The gown, named “Queen’s Wings of Triumph,” was inspired by Thep Kinnaree, a mythical half-woman, half-swan figure from Thai mythology. Fernandez shared the story behind the design on Instagram, explaining how the gown symbolizes grace and majesty.
The creation features an off-shoulder neckline shaped like wings, a fitted silhouette from the abdomen to the hips, and a flowing skirt train. Fernandez described the ensemble as exuding “a regal essence that captures the enchanting spirit of the Kinnaree,” ensuring Opal left a lasting impression on stage.
This isn’t the first time Fernandez has worked with Opal. He also designed the gown she wore when she was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2024 in July.
A pageant design favorite, Fernandez has an impressive portfolio, including the evening gown worn by Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel during her final walk and the gown Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi donned at Miss Universe Thailand 2023.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ representative, Chelsea Manalo, concluded her Miss Universe 2024 journey in the Top 30 and was later crowned the inaugural Miss Universe Asia.
