A municipal councilor was gunned down around noon on Monday, October 24, along the National Highway at Barangay Kurungan, Datu Montawal (Pagagawan), Maguindanao del Sur.
The victim was identified as incumbent Datu Montawal Councilor Mubarac Abubakar, also known to his constituents as “Kagawad Moby.”
As per the initial investigation of the Datu Montawal Municipal Police Station (MPS), Kagawad Moby was riding his red Mitsubishi Strada pick-up when unidentified assailants approached and shot him multiple times.
He was immediately rushed to the Deseret Surgimed Hospital in the neighboring town of Kabacan, North Cotabato, but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
His remains were transported to their residence at Barangay Kayaga in Kabacan. He was buried this afternoon in accordance with Islamic tradition.
His family cries out for justice in response to his senseless and brutal death.
Meanwhile, Datu Montawal MPS is currently conducting a more thorough investigation to determine the motives behind the crime. A hot pursuit operation against the suspects was also launched.
Abubakar won the Sangguniang Bayan elections on May 9 this year with 12,487 votes, or 70.82 percent, and became the First Councilor of Datu Montawal. He also became the chairperson of the municipal council’s Committee on Peace and Order.
