The drama film Green Bones emerged as this year’s Best Picture at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), marking a back-to-back victory for Kapuso director Zig Dulay following last year’s win with Firefly.

Produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, the film triumphed over nine other entries during the Gabi ng Parangal held at Solaire Resort, Parañaque City.

In addition to Best Picture, Green Bones collected several major awards:

  • Best Supporting Actor: Ruru Madrid
  • Best Screenplay: Ricky Lee and Angeli Atienza
  • Best Cinematography: Neil Daza
  • Best Child Performer: Sienna Stevens

Celebratory Remarks

During her acceptance speech, GMA Network Senior Vice President Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes extended her gratitude to the MMFF organizers and jurors. She acknowledged the collective effort of all filmmakers in the festival:

“To make a film takes blood, sweat, tears, and resources. We risked it all to tell a story, and I hope people listen to these wonderful, outstanding stories.”

Nessa Valdellon, GMA Pictures Executive Vice President and GMA Public Affairs First Vice President, described the win as a significant milestone for the studio, recalling its previous back-to-back wins for Muro-Ami and Jose Rizal over two decades ago.

About Green Bones

Based on an original story by JC Rubio, Green Bones follows Domingo Zamora (played by Dennis Trillo), a prisoner infamous for the murder of his sister and niece. When Domingo is up for parole, a newly assigned prison guard (Ruru Madrid) becomes determined to keep him behind bars, unraveling a story of justice and redemption.

The film also stars Michael De Mesa, Alessandra De Rossi, Ronnie Lazaro, Kylie Padilla, Iza Calzado, Sofia Pablo, and others.
