Senator Imee Marcos, recently re-elected to the Senate in the 2025 elections, made headlines during her proclamation speech by acknowledging key political figures — except for her own brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Taking the 12th and final spot in the Senate race, Imee thanked her 96-year-old mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and her children, who were present at the event. She also expressed appreciation to former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte for their support.
“Former President Duterte raised my hand back in October, and his daughter, VP Inday Sara, campaigned for me until the end,” she said in Filipino.
She called her win a testament to standing firm for what is right, no matter how tough the road may be.
When asked afterward why she left out her brother, Imee simply said, “I forgot. I didn’t have notes.”
This omission comes amid a political rift — President Marcos had removed Imee from the administration’s Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas slate following her inquiry into Duterte’s arrest. VP Sara later endorsed Imee’s candidacy.
Imee also dismissed speculation that she’s eyeing the Senate presidency, stating she’s focused only on being officially proclaimed. On the potential impeachment trial of the Vice President, she said she would decide based on the evidence presented.
