Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan expressed openness to working with the Senate majority to address rising food prices and hunger, emphasizing that political color should not get in the way of helping Filipinos in need.

Amid rumors that he and Senator Bam Aquino might align with the Senate majority—despite being endorsed by Senator Risa Hontiveros during the 2025 midterm elections—Pangilinan addressed the speculation in a Facebook post.

“I’ve read the criticisms, and I respect differing views. But I’ve always said I’m open to working with all parties, guided by principle, to combat hunger and lower food prices,” Pangilinan said, adding that his political record speaks for itself.

He reiterated a prior commitment to set aside partisan divides to ensure both the legislative and executive branches can work effectively for the public good. Pangilinan also confirmed that he, Aquino, and Hontiveros are still in discussions about their roles ahead of the 20th Congress’ first session on July 28.

“No matter the final outcome, I will continue fighting to ease hunger among farmers and fishers, and to make food, especially rice, more affordable,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hontiveros clarified that she holds no resentment over Pangilinan and Aquino possibly joining the majority bloc.

“I’m not hurt. Each of us has our own political strategies. I remain focused on strengthening the opposition both inside and outside the Senate,” she said.

She also reiterated her plan to remain an independent senator and is considering forming or joining an independent bloc in the 20th Congress, calling it a more realistic path given the current Senate composition.
