Lamitan City, Basilan Mayor Oric Furigay expressed during yesterday’s arrival of the remains of his late wife, former Lamitan Mayor Rose Furigay, that the local government is ready to provide security escort for Mrs. Muykim Yumol if she decides to return to the city from Manila.
“I will even give her a security guard, I will give her [a] police [escort], kung iyan ang gusto nila. Walang problema iyan (if that is what they want, there’s no problem with it),” said Mayor Furigay.
Mrs. Yumol is the wife of Rolando “Bobong” Yumol, who was shot outside their residence last July 29, and the mother of Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol, suspect in the Ateneo de Manila shooting incident last July 24.
In an interview, she shared that their family’s lives are now in danger following the death of her husband, Bobong.
She asked President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. for help since they feel their lives are threatened due to the dire situation their family is in.
On the other hand, Mayor Furigay said it is not the attitude of Lamiteños to let parents bear the sins of their children. He even called for a full-blown investigation on the cases involving both parties.
“Naniniwala tayo sa hustisya. Naniniwala tayo sa batas. (We believe in justice. We believe in the law. I will request a full blown investigation itong nangyayari sa amin at sa kanila (on what is happening to our family and theirs),” the Mayor added.
Meanwhile, the wake of former Mayor Rose Furigay is held at her family’s residence in Barangay Malinis.
Details of her interment are yet to be released.
