As the nation marked the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to honor the bravery of the heroes of Bataan through genuine service and dedication to nation-building.

In his message on Wednesday, Marcos said true valor extends beyond courage in war. It also shows in everyday acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity that create lasting, positive change in communities.

“Let us draw inspiration from their legacy by championing causes that uplift the lives of our fellow Filipinos,” the President stated.

He stressed that through sincere service and self-offering, today’s citizens can prove themselves worthy heirs of the country’s heroic ancestors and rightful stewards of their vision for a strong and prosperous Bagong Pilipinas.

President Marcos led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Dambana ng Kagitingan in Mount Samat, Bataan—the site that stands as a solemn reminder of the Fall of Bataan in 1942 and the heroism of those who fought during World War II.

In line with the commemoration, the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) are leading Philippine Veterans Week observances from April 5 to 11.

Araw ng Kagitingan is observed every April 9 to honor the sacrifices of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II and to celebrate the courage that helped shape the nation.
