After Queen Elizabeth II passed away, Netflix revealed that it had stopped filming “The Crown,” its British royal drama, on Friday and the day of the royal funeral out of respect for the late monarch.
“As a mark of respect, filming on The Crown was suspended today,” Netflix said in a press statement on Friday. “Filming will also be suspended on the day of Her Majesty The Queen’s funeral.”
The Netflix drama about the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth over several decades is presently filming its sixth season.
“The Crown is a love letter to [the Queen] and I’ve nothing to add, for now, just silence and respect, I expect we will stop filming out of respect too,” Peter Morgan, the author, said as much in a statement on Thursday.
The royal family’s involvement in 1990s events, such as Princess Diana’s passing, is expected to be covered in the fifth season, which will debut in November. Imelda Staunton will take on the role of the Queen.
“None of us know when that time will come but it would be proper to show respect to the Queen. It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She’s a global figure and it’s what we should do,” The Crown’s director Stephen Daldryhe said way back in the 2016 release of the Emmy-winning Netflix drama.
According to a People article, it is not anticipated that the sixth and final season of the show will showcase current happenings.
The 6th season has followed the monarch over the years since a young Princess Elizabeth’s accession to the throne and her 1947 wedding to Prince Philip.
At the age of 96, the monarch with the longest reign in British history passed away at Balmoral Castle, her vacation home in Scotland.
Buckingham Palace has not yet announced the funeral date.
