Iniutos ng Office of the Ombudsman ang preventive suspension kay Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Director General Jeremiah Belgica at apat pang opisyal dahil sa umano’y graft.
Sa utos nito na may petsang Mayo 24, iniutos ng Ombudsman ang suspensiyon ng anim na buwan kina Belgica, Deputy Director General Eduardo Bringas, Director Jedreck Ng, Director Melamy Salvadora-Asperin at Division Chief Sheryl Pura-Sumagui.
“In order to secure the documents and to prevent possible harassment of witnesses and considering further that their continued stay in office may prejudice the case filed against them, they are hereby placed under PREVENTIVE SUSPENSION for a period of six (6) months pursuant to Section 24 of Republic Act No. 6770,” nakasaad sa utos na pinirmahan ni Ombudsman Samuel Martires.
Iniutos ang preventive suspension matapos magsampa ng reklamo ang isang telecommunications firm laban kay Belgica at sa apat pang opisyal ng ARTA dahil sa umano’y paglabag sa Republic Act 3019 o Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
Sa reklamo nito, inakusahan ng telco firm ang limang opisyal ng ARTA ng umano’y pabor at pagbibigay ng special treatment sa isa pang telco firm sa pagpili ng New Major Player (NMP) sa telecom industry sa bansa, na isinagawa ng National Telecommunications Commission.
Binanggit ni Martires na ang telco firm na umano’y pinaboran ay bumili din ng mga dokumento ng bid ngunit nabigong lumahok sa proseso ng pagpili ng NMP.
