President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will be leading the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Samal Island-Davao City Connector Bridge (SIDC) Project tomorrow, October 27, at Damosa Land Properties, Davao City.
Marcos Jr. is expected to lower the time capsule to finally signal the beginning of the construction of the bridge connecting the Island Garden City of Samal and Davao City, which has been more than four decades in the making.
He will be joined by the national and regional officers from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Regional Development Council (RDC-XI) during the ceremony.
The four-lane bridge project, with a length of 3.98 kilometers including ramps in Davao City and a 24-meter wide at grade road and roundabout in Samal Circumferential Road, is estimated to cost PHP23.04 billion. It is expected to be completed in 2027.
The groundbreaking ceremony is one of the three events Marcos Jr. will be attending on his first official visit to the city as President. The other two are the distribution of various government aid, which will benefit 500 marginalized or underprivileged people, and a visit to the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) headquarters in Panacan, where he will spend time talking with the government troops.
