The Philippines is gearing up to send 20 athletes to compete in the 2025 Asian Winter Games, scheduled to take place in Harbin, China, from February 7 to 14.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced that the country will participate in six of the event’s 11 sports.
Curling Pilipinas, officially known as the Curling Winter Sports Association of the Philippines, will lead the contingent with 10 athletes, including Marc Angelo Pfister, Enrico Gabriel Pfister, Christian Patrick Haller, Alan Beat Frei, Jessica Pfister, Benjo Delarmente, Kathleen Dubberstein, Leilani Dubberstein, Sheila Mariano, and Anne Marie Bonache.
In figure skating, representatives from the Philippine Skating Union will include Sofia Frank, Paolo Borromeo, Cathryn Limketkai, and the pair of Isabella Gamez and Aleksandr Korovin—the latter recently granted Filipino citizenship. Peter Groseclose will compete in short track speed skating.
The Philippine Ski and Snowboarding Association is sending Francis Ceccarelli and Talullah Proulx for alpine skiing, Laetaz Amihan Rabe for freestyle skiing, and Adrian Tongco for snowboarding.
According to POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, the Asian Winter Games serve as a critical platform for the country’s long-term goal of achieving its first Winter Olympics medal.
“We’ve already achieved the dream in the Summer Olympics with three consecutive gold medals. Now, we’re striving for the same success in the Winter Olympics,” Tolentino stated.
Richard Lim has been named the chef de mission for the Philippine team.
