Local government units (LGUs) have initiated massive clean-up operations to remove the tons of garbage left behind after New Year’s Eve celebrations across Metro Manila.
In a report by Bernadette Reyes on Balitanghali, four truckloads of trash were collected along a stretch of Taft Avenue in Libertad, Pasay City, just hours after the midnight countdown. The previously closed road was reopened by 7:00 a.m.
Similar scenes unfolded along Recto Avenue in Manila and Rizal Avenue in Caloocan City.
In Divisoria, piles of trash—mostly discarded fruits and vegetables—reached alarming heights, adding to the post-festivity chaos.
To address the mess, the Manila City Hall Department of Public Services began sanitation and cleaning efforts early on Wednesday morning.
In contrast, Quezon City Circle stood out for its proper waste management during the New Year Countdown, leading to a faster and more efficient clean-up process.
