The Philippine National Police Regional Office 9 has apprehended the suspected mastermind behind the abduction of American vlogger Elliot Eastman, whose fate remains uncertain after claims that he may have died during the ordeal.
According to a report by Super Radyo dzBB’s Glen Juego, the arrest was made based on a warrant for kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges. The suspect, believed to have orchestrated the kidnapping on October 17, 2024, in Zamboanga del Norte, was captured on January 7, 2025, at the boundary of Zamboanga City and Basilan Strait.
Grim Developments in the Case
In December 2024, police reported that one of the suspects claimed Eastman died on a banca (small boat) and that his body was discarded at sea.
Additionally, three individuals allegedly connected to the abduction were killed in a police encounter in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay. The suspects were identified as Mursid Ahod, Abdul Sahibad, and Fahad Sahibad.
Legal Actions
Authorities have filed kidnapping and serious illegal detention complaints against the other suspects, three of whom are already in police custody.
Background
Before his disappearance, Eastman, who was based in Mindanao, shared in his vlogs that his life and family were under threat. In one video, he expressed concerns, stating that people around him “don’t really like” him and that “they want bad things to happen” to him.
