Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante announced that the House’s QuadCom, which is investigating alleged extrajudicial killings (EJKs) during the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, will continue its probe even during the congressional recess. The inquiry follows the discovery of a possible syndicate and the involvement of high-ranking police officials in the drug trade.

Abante noted that while the upcoming filing of certificates of candidacy for the next election draws near, the committee remains committed to concluding the investigation.

Over the weekend, the QuadCom revealed plans to invite former President Rodrigo Duterte for further questioning, particularly following claims made by former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog. Mabilog alleged that his inclusion in Duterte’s “narcolist” was politically motivated, stemming from his lack of support for Duterte during the 2016 elections. Mabilog also claimed that he was summoned to Camp Crame by then-PNP Chief and current Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, a situation he believed endangered his life.

The committee also planned to discuss the involvement of the late PNP General Camilo Cascolan, who reportedly advised Mabilog against going to Camp Crame.

As the investigation continues, the QuadCom will focus on the broader scope of EJKs linked to the drug war. According to human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, over 20,000 people were killed during this period, though official police reports put the number at around 6,000.
