SUGA of BTS has issued an apology following a drunk driving incident that resulted in the suspension of his license and a fine.
The rapper addressed the BTS ARMY on the BTS Weverse page, expressing regret for his actions. According to a translation, he wrote, “Hello. This is SUGA. I am sorry and feel very heavy-hearted to come to you like this after disappointing you.”
SUGA recounted the events of August 6, when he went out for dinner and had been drinking. Afterward, he attempted to return home using an electric scooter. “Because I had been drinking, I did not realize that using an electric scooter after drinking was against the law and violated the road traffic laws,” SUGA explained.
He further detailed that he fell in front of his home while trying to park the scooter. A nearby police officer conducted a breathalyzer test, leading to the suspension of his license and a fine. SUGA noted that no individuals or properties were harmed but took full responsibility for his actions. “I’d like to apologize for my negligence and wrong behavior to all those whose my actions have hurt, and will be careful with my actions to make sure that things like this do not happen again,” he said.
Currently undergoing mandatory military service, SUGA remains committed to his responsibilities. To date, Jin is the only BTS member who has been discharged from military service.
SUGA, also known as Agust D, has released two mixtapes: a self-titled one in 2016 and “D-2” in 2020. He completed his first solo tour in 2023, promoting his album “D-Day,” which includes tracks like “People Pt.2 (feat. IU),” “Haegum,” and “AMYGDALA.”
BTS is scheduled to reconvene as a group in 2025.
