The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is vigilantly monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA), projected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either on Friday or over the weekend.

This weather system will be designated as Tropical Depression “Kabayan” once it crosses into PAR, according to PAGASA’s weather specialist Robert “Obet” Badrina. Currently, the LPA is situated approximately 1,275 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao and has not yet begun to impact the Philippines. Meanwhile, the shear line, along with the northeast monsoon (‘amihan’), is influencing weather patterns across various regions.

The shear line is causing overcast skies, rain showers, and thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Bicol Region, and parts of Luzon, while the northeast monsoon is bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in areas like Kalinga, Apayao, and the Ilocos Region. The rest of the country is expected to experience partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated downpours and thunderstorms due to the shear line and localized thunderstorms.
