Typhoon Marce has left a trail of destruction across Cagayan province, making two landfalls that brought heavy rains, powerful winds, and severe damage to the area. According to Jasmine Gabriel Galban’s report on “24 Oras,” the storm has caused widespread devastation, with many residents fearing for their safety as the typhoon tore through their communities.

In Sta. Ana, where Marce first made landfall, the newly built Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) saw its ceiling collapse under the fierce winds. In Sanchez Mira, the storm’s second landfall, strong winds damaged a concrete welcome arc, tore off nearly half a church roof, and flooded numerous areas.

Residents woke to scenes of severe damage, with countless homes missing roofs, streets littered with fallen trees and electric poles, and a gymnasium in Pamplona nearly destroyed. Agricultural areas were also heavily affected—rice fields in Sta. Teresita were completely flooded, destroying crops ready for harvest. Many schools in towns like Allacapan suffered significant structural damage, with some buildings left as skeletal remains.

Over 13,000 families were evacuated during the height of the typhoon, and as of Friday, 13 towns remained without electricity. Local officials are conducting relief efforts, distributing aid, and assessing the extent of the damage. Although Typhoon Marce has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the aftermath continues to impact Cagayan and parts of the Ilocos Region.
